Love is not getting, but giving. It is sacrifice. And sacrifice is glorious! I have no patience with women who measure and weigh their love like a country doctor dispensing capsules. If a man is worth loving at all, he is worth loving generously, even recklessly.

Love and self-denial for the object loved go hand-in-hand. If I profess to love a certain person, and yet will neither give my silver nor my gold to relieve his wants, nor in any way deny myself comfort or ease for his sake, such love is contemptible; it wears the name, but lacks the reality of love: true love must be measured by the degree to which the person loving will be willing to subject himself to crosses and losses, to suffering and self-denials. After all, the value of a thing in the market is what a man will give for it, and you must estimate the value of a man’s love by that which he is willing to give up for it.

If you already have a person's love no sacrifice can be too much to give for it; but any sacrifice is too great to buy it for you.

The measure of love is to love without measure.

When you love you wish to do things for. You wish to sacrifice for. You wish to serve.

To love Me for what I may give you is not loving Me at all. To sacrifice anything in My cause to gain something for yourself is like a blind man sacrificing his eyes for sight. I am the Divine Beloved worthy of being loved because I am Love. He who loves Me because of this will be blessed with unlimited sight and will see Me as I am.

It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much love is put in the giving.

The value of a sentiment is the amount of sacrifice you are prepared to make for it.

Sometimes the decision to agree with the other person's idea will involve great sacrifice. However, love always involves some sacrifice.

Small things with great love. . . . It is not how much we do, but how much love we put into the doing. And it is not how much we give, but how much love we put into the giving. To God there is nothing small.

Love is the measure by which we shall be judged.

The value of one's life is determined by how much love one gives, not by how much love one has received.

Love, after all, is the ingredient that separates a sacrifice from ordinary, everyday butchery.
