The dissatisfaction with every particular mode of communication (c) leads to a will to total c, a will which can only be one and which is the authentically driving and binding force in all the modes of c.
But this will to communicate, which actualizes itself out of potential Existenz through reason in the three modes of encompassing, itself does not reach fulfillment. For it is continuously bound within the three modes and ,also, aroused and moved, yet it is, so to speak muddied in its mode. And finally, it finds itself limited through its own , as well as others' historicity. This historicity both brings communication in its depths before the multiplicity of truth and also lets it wrecked.

Každý občan má svůj díl odpovědnosti za to, co stát činí, a každý je společně se státem postižen tím, co stát potkalo. Zločinecký stát jde k tíži celému národu. Jedná-li se tedy s vůdci státu jako se zločinci, i když jimi jsou, má občan pocit, že se tak jedná i s ním. S nimi je odsuzován i národ. Proto národ pociťuje to, co vůdcové státu nyní prožívají, jako vlastní urážku a ztrátu důstojnosti.

Existuje solidarita mezi lidmi jako lidmi, v jejímž důsledku je každý spoluzodpovědný za všechno bezpráví a všechnu nespravedlnost na světě, zvláště za zločiny, k nimž dochází v jeho přítomnosti nebo s jeho vědomím. Jestliže jsem neučinil všechno, co jsem mohl, abych jim zabránil, jsem spoluvinen. Jestliže jsem nenasadil svůj život, abych zabránil zavraždění druhých, ale jen jsem přihlížel, cítím se vinen způsobem, který nelze právně, politicky a morálně přiměřeně postihnout. To, že ještě žiji, když se stalo něco takového, spočívá na mně jako nesmazatelná vina. Nejsme-li díky nějaké šťastné okolnosti ušetřeni této situace, dospíváme jako lidé na hranici, kde musíme volit: buď bezpodmínečně – bez vyhlídky na úspěch, bezúčelně – nasadit život, nebo raději zůstat naživu, protože úspěch je nemožný.
