Do we have politics in Nigeria? Politics everywhere is based on party politics. I work with ideologists but we don’t have political ideologists in Nigeria. Those who find their way into power don’t have what it takes to run the country. I work with the greatest good for the greatest number but I don’t see that here.

Politics is like boxing — you try to knock out your opponents.

Politics in Nigeria is very expensive and most women cannot compete well with the men. However, I think there is a lot that has to be done by the women themselves to prove their own and they should not sit back and say because they are women they want this or they want Beijing Declaration. They should work hard so that they can be identified in the political scene.

Nigeria has not, thus far, evolved a national political culture. There really is nothing which the holder of political office is forbidden to do! A minister forced to resign from office for corruption can win a landslide victory at a subsequent election. He can, when he dies, receive a state funeral! A military officer found to have abused his office as a governor and consequently stripped of his rank, can contest and win elections as a civilian governor and subsequently becomes an appointee of a Federal Military Government. An executive President can be removed from office by the military because of the corruption of his regime; and yet be absolved of all blame for the corruption of that regime. Hail Nigeria, Africa’s giant!

The Nigeria political terrain is still very rough. It’s not as if we don’t have capable women. We have very competent women. Is it not this same set of women that excel in other professions? Look at Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, where she is now at the World Trade Organization, look at several other women at home that are doing well. Women are well educated, they are competent but when it comes to the political terrain, the way Nigeria practices politics is very problematic.

as long as elective positions are concerned, not many women were elected. The culture and religion have so intimidated women it takes a lot of courage for them to go into Nigerian politics. Nigerian politics is discouraging, so to say. But for those who run, there is also discrimination from fellow women. There is a combination of factors why women shy away from politics. Cultural, religious, financial, and women themselves are part of it

I think the challenge in politics is that somebody is mischievously trying to make the Nigerian woman believe there is problem for her going into politics.

Nigerians find faults easily in government policies and efforts geared towards their welfare.

The politicians still say that it's you or me, and that's why they go for the gun.

Politics in Uganda has become very transactional. You give them money; they will have to give you the votes.

Here in Nigeria, what makes the news is conflict between the executive and the legislature.

In an age of combative politics, you have to be a fighter to be in the game.
