The national Palestinian poet, and author (1941–2008)
Mahmoud Darwish (13 March 1941 – 9 August 2008) was a Palestinian poet and author who was regarded as the Palestinian national poet. He won numerous awards for his works. Darwish used Palestine as a metaphor for the loss of Eden, birth and resurrection, and the anguish of dispossession and exile. He also served as an editor for several literary magazines in Palestine.

عن اللا شيء
هو اللا شيء يأخذنا إلى لا شيء ,
حدَّقنا إلى اللاشيء بحثاً عن معانيه ...
فجرَّدنا من اللاشيء شيءٌ يشبه اللاشيءَ
فاشتقنا إلى عبثية اللاشيء
فهو أخفّ من شيء يُشَيِّئنا...
يحبُّ العبدُ طاغيةً
لأن مَهابة اللاشيء في صنم تُؤَلِّهُهُ

هكذا يتناسل اللاشيء من لا شيء آخرَ ...
ما هو اللاشيء هذا السيِّدُ المتجدِّدُ ,
المتعدِّدُ , المتجبرّ, المتكبرِّ, اللزجُ
المُهَرِّجُ.... ما هو اللاشيء هذا
ربُمَّا هو وعكةٌ رُوحيَّةٌ
أو طاقةٌ مكبوتةٌ
أو , ربما هو ساخرٌ متمرِّسٌ
