Anyway everyboy (sorry) knows that what women have done that is really important is not to constitute a great, cheap labor force that you can zip in when you're at war and zip out again afterwards but to Be Mothers, to form the coming generation, to give birth to them, to nurse them, to mop floors for them, to love them, cook for them, clean for them, change their diapers, pick up after them, and mainly sacrifice themselves for them. This is the most important job in the world. That’s why they don’t pay you for it.

There are many other important duties a woman can perform in this life.

That point was, and still is, that all women are working women and their work should be valued. Women do housework, care work, looking after children but none of this is reflected in the statistics. Outside of the home, their work tends to be low paid and in segregated areas. I am an economist. We at the ILO were looking at how women’s work could be counted, because what is not counted is not valued.

More than ten million women march to work every morning side by side with the men. Steadily the importance of women is gaining not only in the routine tasks of industry but in executive responsibility. I include also the woman who stays at home as the guardian of the welfare of the family. She is a partner in the job and wages. Women constitute a part of our industrial achievement.

Economic considerations are a major determinant of the extent to which women are involved in farming as against processing and trading.

The traditional role of women has principally been child bearing and motherhood, small-scale subsistence gardening and petty trading; hence the niche of the woman’s activities in our traditional society has been, by and large, the home.

The economy is in the hands of women. They work hard and are very courageous. Their only problem is that they are very limited.

I didn't plan on either children or writing. Once I realized that writing satisfied me in some enormous way, I had to make adjustments. The writing was always marginal in terms of time when the children were small. But it was major in terms of my head. I always thought that women could do a lot of things. All the women I knew did nine or ten things at one time. I always understood that women worked, they went to church, they managed their houses, they managed somebody else's houses, they raised their children, they raised somebody else's children, they taught. I have great admiration for market women. The incredible thing that we don't know is that they are holding up a large sector of the economy of this country. These women that sell tomatoes, pepper, onions; that is how they raise their children. That is how they train their children up to university level. That is how they hold their families together.

With particular reference to household energy, which women are the most concerned, be a working woman, a housewife, a female entrepreneur, etc. In this competitive world, there is a need to cut on time usage.

Women have an important contribution to make.

Women are key in holding a family together. Families are essential for the development and sustenance of society as a whole.

Why is it never said that the really crucial function, the really important role that women serve as housewives is to buy more things for the house.
