The concrete is a combination of abstractions — not an arbitrary or subjective combination but one that corresponds to the laws of the movement of a given phenomenon.

One begins to think with that new building block, rather than with littler pieces. And finally, the things which seem like elements dissolve, and leave a fabric of relationships behind, which is the stuff that actually repeats itself, and gives the structure to a building or a town.

When we link things metaphorically we recognise similarity in difference, we think one thing in terms of attributes of another.

Either a building is part of a place or it is not. Once that kinship is there, time will only make it stronger.

When it is found (as generally happens) that what is observed is only similar to what he had in mind and not identical, then from a consideration of the similarities and the differences he gets a new idea which is in turn tested. And so it goes, with the continual emergence of something new that is common to the thought of scientists and what is observed in nature.

At a given time some concrete forms are simply there in vision, not less than colors and brightnesses.

Only by the concrete whole which comprises the object and the situation are the vectors which determine the dynamics of the event defined.
