Each person who ever was or is or will be has a song. It isn't a song that anybody else wrote. It has its own melody, it has its own words. Very few people get to sing their song. Most of us fear that we cannot do it justice with our voices, or that our words are too foolish or too honest, or too odd. So people live their song instead.

I've got to know that I'm singing something with truth to it. My songs are different than anybody else's songs. Other artists can get by on their voices and their style, but my songs speak volumes, and all I have to to is lay them down correctly, lyrically, and they'll do what they need to do.

In my music, I'm trying to play the truth of what I am. The reason it's difficult is because I'm changing all the time.

The people in my songs are all me.

I wanted just a song to sing, and there came a certain point where I couldn't sing anything. So I had to write what I wanted to sing 'cos nobody else was writing what I wanted to sing.

I am one thing, my writings are another.

When I wrote this song I felt pretty unoriginal because everybody writes love songs and everybody feels like their love's the most important, and when their love ends and they get their heart broken, that nobody understands, and that's ridiculous... but so am I.

Anything I can sing, I call a song. Anything I can't sing, I call a poem.

Sometimes I'm right, and I can be wrong. My own beliefs are in my song. A butcher, a banker, a drummer, and then Makes no difference what group I'm in. I am everyday people! (yeah yeah)

What I have to say is all in the music. If I want to say anything, I write a song.

For me, how I feel about what I wrote down turns into a song.

You can sometimes get your own feelings across more strongly if you pretend that you're singing it from someone else's angle. But it's always from me. It's just a new way of framing it. source

So many people think that this album is showing a different side of me, but that's not really what it is. I think it's just more me this time because I got to really do it how I wanted to.

I don't sing a song without it meaning something to me, or adding my own interpretation to them.
