He would agree that life is a little worth living — or worth living a little; but would remark that, unfortunately, to live little enough, we have to live a great deal.

There are few things it is more important to learn than how to live on little and be therewith content: for the less we need what is without, the more leisure have we to live within.

Don’t you feel that it is pleasanter to help one another, to have daily duties with make leisure sweet when it comes, and to bear and for bear, that home may be comfortable and lovely to us all?

I should not want to live unless I could live to do some good to others.

Live for others if you want to live for yourself.

Marcus Aurelius asked: “You see how few things you have to do to live a satisfying and reverent life?

It may be expedient but it is not just that some should have less in order that others may prosper.

Do your duty and a little more and the future will take care of itself.

Human life is truly a short affair. It is better to live doing the things that you like. It is foolish to live within this dream of a world seeing unpleasantness and doing only things that you do not like.

It's not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something. May I suggest that it be creating joy for others, sharing what we have for the betterment of personkind, bringing hope to the lost and love to the lonely.

The important thing, once you have enough to eat and a nice house, is what you can do for others, what you can contribute to the enterprise as a whole.

Who does not in some sort live to others, does not live much to himself.

Maybe a single life doesn't amount to much but perhaps it should at least drift toward the common good.
