We can say what we need to say. We can gently, but assertively, speak our mind. We do not need to be judgmental, tactless, blaming or cruel when we speak our truths

Say what you have to say, not what you ought. Any truth is better than make-believe.

I don't always communicate the truth in the way that I want to — but one of the strengths of telling the truth is that it remains open for elaboration. If what you say in the heat of the moment isn’t quite right, you can amend it. I have learned that I would rather be maladroit, or even rude, than dishonest.

Rarely is there one absolute truth, so people who believe that they speak the truth are very silencing of others. When we recognize that we can see things only from our own perspective, we can share our views in a nonthreatening way.

I wish we could stop the little lies. I don't mean that one has to be brutally frank. I don't believe that we should be brutal about anything, however, it is wonderfully liberating to be honest. One does not have to tell all that one knows, but we should be careful what we say is the truth.

If you're not allowed to say something, I have a suspicion that not only should you be allowed to say it, but that it is simply true.

When we try to describe the truth with words, we distort it and it's no longer truth — it's our story. The story may be true for us, but that doesn't mean it's true for anyone else.

What you've got to do is be honest. Say what you believe. Give it to them straight. Just don't wuss out.
