We must be something in order to do something, but we must also do something in order to be something. The best rule, I think, is this: If we find it hard to do good, then let us try to be good. If, on the other hand, we find it hard to be good, then let us try to do good. Being leads to doing, doing leads to being. Yet below both as their common root is faith, — faith in God, in man, in ourselves, in the eternal superiority of right over wrong, truth over error, good over evil, love over all selfishness and all sin.

To build a better world every individual must strive to do good, everywhere and with passion and genuine concern, independent from party strategies or programmes. The programme of every Christian must be a "heart which sees" where love is needed and acts accordingly.

There is only one thing in the world that is really valuable, it is to do good.

We all must try to be good.

You must do good for other peoples, even if you are not well, even if the whole world around you is not well.

to do something is to create existence

One must be something in order to do something.

I believe one writes because one has to create a world in which one can live.

Do real and permanent good in this world.

If you really want to help this world, what you really will have to teach is how to live in it.

Be not simply good; be good for something.
