Thousands of years ago, it was only kings, pharaohs, and emperors who had the ability to solve large-scale problems. Hundreds of years ago, this power expanded to the industrialists who built our transportation systems and financial institutions. But today, the ability to solve such problems has been thoroughly democratized. Right now, and for the first time ever, a passionate and committed individual has access to the technology, minds, and capital required to take on any challenge. Even better, that individual has good reason to take on such challenges. As we will soon see, the world's biggest problems are now the world's biggest business opportunities. This means, for exponential entrepreneurs, finding a significant challenge is a meaningful road to wealth. Ultimately, as I teach at Singularity University (much more on this later), the best way to become a billionaire is to solve a billion-person problem.

The world's biggest problems are the world's biggest business opportunities. Water scarcity. Energy. Education. Healthcare. If you solve a problem for a billion people, you become a billionaire. It's that simple.

The serious problems in life...are never fully solved. If ever they should appear to be so it is a sure sign that something has been lost. The meaning and purpose of a problem seem to lie not in its solution but in our working at it incessantly.

First of all, there are problems that no one knows how to solve. There are problems that have been studied but untouched, or problems on which there is partial progress. There are problems that sound compelling when formulated, but which no one has thought of yet. There are concepts which are very useful in solving problems .. or which perhaps ... sound very natural and compelling when formulated, but have not been formulated yet. And all of these things interact. So, by solving problems, one is led to concepts — and, by thinking about concepts, one is led to problems.

what valuable company is nobody building? Every correct answer is necessarily a secret: something important and unknown, something hard to do but doable. If there are many secrets left in the world, there are probably many world-changing companies yet to be started.

The best business ideas have yet to be tried. The best books have yet to be written. The best relationships have yet to be formed.

It's not too late. The space of possibilities is endless. The most interesting terrain remains unexplored.
