Manuel Rubén Abimael Guzmán Reynoso (3 December 1934 – 11 September 2021), also known as Chairman Gonzalo, was the former leader of the Communist Party of Peru Shining Path during the Maoist insurgency known as the internal conflict in Peru. He was captured by the Peruvian government in 1992 and sentenced to life imprisonment. A number of countries designate the Shining Path as a terrorist organization.
