We carry within us the wonders we seek around us

It is human, I think, when we encounter the marvelous to try and bring away some of it with us

Love is the only thing that we can carry with us when we go.

In difficult times carry something beautiful in your heart.

We have to take everything as it comes and to find beauty in everything. That's what I manage to do.

And yet even in reaching for the beautiful there is beauty, and also in suffering whatever it is that one suffers en route.

We carry with us the wonders, we seek without us: There is all Africa, and her prodigies in us; we are that bold and adventurous piece of nature, which he that studies, wisely learns in a compendium, what others labour at in a divided piece and endless volume.

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us, or we find it not. The best of beauty is a finer charm than skill in surfaces, in outlines, or rules of art can ever teach, namely, a radiation from the work of art of human character, — a wonderful expression through stone, or canvas, or musical sound, of the deepest and simplest attributes of our nature, and therefore most intelligible at last to those souls which have these attributes.

The beautiful is not that which we love and because we love it, but that which by its objective value obliges us to love it.

We do not want merely to see beauty... we want something else which can hardly be put into words- to be united with the beauty we see, to pass into it, to receive it into ourselves, to bathe in it, to become part of it. That is why we have peopled air and earth and water with gods and goddesses, and nymphs and elves.

To me the most important thing is the sense of going on. You know how beautiful things are when you're traveling.

The world is certainly full of beautiful things, if only I could come across them.

Beauty surrounds us.

The human soul is hungry for beauty; we seek it everywhere – in landscape, music, art, clothes, furniture, gardening, companionship, love, religion and in ourselves. No-one would desire not to be beautiful. When we experience the Beautiful, there is a sense of homecoming. Some of our most wonderful memories are of beautiful places where we felt immediately at home. We feel most alive in the presence of the Beautiful for it meets the needs of our soul.
