But what of names, which often enough mean nothing at all?

One of the miseries of life is that everybody names things a little bit wrong, and so it makes a little bit harder to understand things than it would have been if they had been named differently.

They don't know how to watch things. They don't know how to see anything but what they expect to see.

They do not see what they look at, hence they know not what they do.

A name is not just a sound, it has a profound meaning. The problem is they do not think about what they are doing.

The majority of people have no understanding of the things with which they daily meet, nor, when instructed, do they have any right knowledge of them, although to themselves they seem to have.

They didn't put two and two together. They didn't even know what they knew. I don't know what's the matter with people, they don't learn by understanding; they learn by some other way — by rote, or something. Their knowledge is so fragile!

If you can’t define something you have no formal rational way of knowing that it exists. Neither can you really tell anyone else what it is. There is, in fact, no formal difference between inability to define and stupidity.

The people. They know how to know, but not how to choose.

If the names are unknown knowledge of the things also perishes.

“They do not know how to do right,” declares the Lord,

You have people walking around with all the knowledge of humanity on their phone, but they have no idea how to integrate it. We don’t train people in thinking or reasoning.

Ninety-nine people out of a hundred have not seriously considered what they mean by the term "exist" nor how a thing qualifies itself to be labelled real.

They know too many things they should not know and they do not know some things they need to know.
