Retired just means I don’t have a job description, and I can work on what I want now.

I don't spend time analysing and nitpicking. I just say 'Thank you Lord. Then I watch the lord do more, again and again.

Work helps prevent one from getting old. I, for one, cannot dream of retiring. Not now or ever. Retire? The word is alien and the idea inconceivable to me. I don’t believe in retirement for anyone in my type of work, not while the spirit remains. My work is my life. I cannot think of one without the other. To “retire” means to me to begin to die. The man who works and is never bored is never old. Work and interest in worthwhile things are the best remedy for age. Each day I am reborn. Each day I must begin again.

For the past eighty years I have started each day in the same manner.

I don’t think about art while I work…I try to think about life.

I work – by choice; because in most cases when you retire at a certain age, it’s like a signal to the powers that be that you’re ready to die. That’s why I think that retirement is overrated. So I say to people my age, Continue working if you can. Continue being active. It will prolong your life.

I don’t really believe so much in retirement. I believe in may be reducing activities. As long as I share responsibilities and duties with other people and keep only that that I can handle, I will always work.
