An irrelevance, and your life's altered.

Humankind is an insignificant part of existence.

Everything written about art is profoundly unimportant.

It is as hugely irrelevant to us as the literary outpourings of a poet are to a bacterium living in his lower bowel. Indeed, to an even tinier mite living in the bacterium’s vacuole. It just doesn’t matter.

Man is a useless passion. It is meaningless that we live and it is meaningless that we die.

The only horrible thing in the world is ennui.

God is either of no importance, or of supreme importance.

Indifference of every kind is reprehensible, even indifference towards one’s self.

To talk about religion except in terms of human psychology is an irrelevance.

I invite you to try to think of a source of value that has absolutely nothing to do with the (actual or potential) experience of conscious beings. Take a moment to think about what this would entail: whatever this alternative is, it cannot affect the experience of any creature (in this life or in any other). Put this thing in a box, and what you have in that box is — it would seem, by definition — the least interesting thing in the universe.

Nature has no reverence towards life. Nature treats life as though it were the most valueless thing in the world.... Nature does not act by purposes.
