Now, brethren, do not expect perfection in your choice of a mate. Do not be so particular that you overlook her most important qualities of having a strong testimony, living the principles of the gospel, loving home, wanting to be a mother in Zion, and supporting you in your priesthood responsibilities.

Of course, she should be attractive to you....

And one good yardstick as to whether a person might be the right one for you is this: in her presence, do you think your noblest thoughts, do you aspire to your finest deeds, do you wish you were better than you are?

She will look at you as women look at men, and she will judge you as women judge men — not on the strength of their arguments, and not on their cleverness or prowess in battle, but rather on the force of their character, the intensity of their passion, the strength of their soul, their compassion, and — ah, this above all — their conversation.

Women are gifts, open them with care, judge them with leniecy, test and weigh their depths, then accept those with true worth and value.

I’d like for women to be judged on their skills and competence, not on their physique.

It’s up to you. But remember that she is a mirror that reflects a part of your mind. If she is beautiful, it’s because your memories are. You provide the formula. You can only finish where you started, don’t forget that

Every faculty in one man is the measure by which he judges of the like faculty in another. I judge of your sight by my sight, of your ear by my ear, of your reason by my reason, of your resentment by my resentment, of your love by my love. I neither have, nor can have, any other way of judging about them.

I propose to value them according to their character, and not according to their duties. Each man acquires his character for himself, but accident assigns his duties.

Judge thyself with the judgment of sincerity, and thou wilt judge others with the judgment of charity.

To arrive at a just estimate of a renowned man's character one must judge it by the standards of his time, not ours.

No man is to be judged by the mere nature of his duties, but all should be judged by the manner and the spirit in which they perform them.

A person's rightful due is to be treated as an object of love, not as an object for use.

Instead of thinking, “I wonder if she’ll like me,” think, “I wonder what she’s like?
