والتحقیق بالبرهان علم ، وملابسة عین تلك الحالة ذوق ، والقبول من التسامع والتجربة
بحسن الظن إیمان.

It is related that Satan came before Yahyâ . The latter saw that Satan had plucks of everything on his body. He asked him: “O Satan! What are these plucks?” He replied: “These are the desires with which I hunt mankind.” Yahyâ asked: “Do you have any of my plucks there?” He replied: “Perhaps you ate a stomach full which caused you to feel heavy and uncomfortable in offeringsalâh and remembering Allâh .” Yahyâ asked: “Is there anything else?” He replied: “No.” Yahyâ said: “I take an oath that I will never fill my stomach with food.” Satan said to him: “I take an oath that I will never advise a Muslim.” Among them is the love to have beautiful utensils, clothing and to adorn and decorate the house. When Satan sees that this quality has overpowered the heart of a particular person, he settles down and establishes himself in that person’s heart. He then continually invites him towards building the house, beautifying its roofs and walls, expanding it, etc. He also invites him towards beautifying himself with clothing and animals. He causes the person to undergo losses throughout his life in fulfilling all these demands. Once he gets him involved in all this, he does not have to go that person a second time because these very demands [and desires] lead him to fulfil other demands. This continues till his death. He thus dies in the path of Satan and in following his desires. An evil destiny is thus feared from all this. We seek refuge in Allâh

Worldly desires were striving to keep me by their chains just where I was, while the voice of faith was calling, `To the road! to the road! What is left of life is but little and the journey before you is long. All that keeps you busy, both intellectually and practically, is but hypocrisy and delusion. If you do not prepare now for eternal life, when will you prepare? If you do not now sever these attachments, when will you sever them?’ On hearing that, the impulse would be stirred and the resolution made to take to flight.

وأمّا الإلهيات ففيها أكثر أغالطيهم -أي الفلاسفة- ومجموع ما غلطوا فيه يرجع إلى عشرين أصلاً يجب إكفارهم في ثلاثة منها وتبديعهم في سبعة عشر، وقد أبطلناها جميعاً في كتابنا المسى تهافت الفلاسفة، فأما الثلاثة: فقولهم بأن الأجسام لا تُحشر، وأن الله تعالى لا يعلم الجزئيات بل الكليات فقط، وأن العالم قديم .... وجب الحكمُ بكفر أرستطاليس ومَنْ قبله من الفلاسفة كأفلاطون وسقراط وغيرهم، وكفر متبعيهم من متفلسفة الإسلاميين كابن سينا والفارابي وأمثالهم.

ثم لاحظت أحوالي ؛ فإذا أنا منغمس في العلائق ، وقد أحدقت بي من الجوانب ؛ ولاحظت أعمالي – وأحسنها التدريس والتعليم - فإذا أنا فيها مقبل على علوم غير مهمة ولا نافعة في طريق الآخرة.
ثم تفكرت في نيتي في التدريس فإذا هي غير خالصة لوجه الله تعالى ، بل باعثها ومحركها طلب الجاه وانتشار الصيت ؛ فتيقنت أني على شفا جُرُف هار ، وأني قد أشفيت على النار ، إن لم أشتغل بتلافي الأحوال.

And how can someone be described as flawless [or protector] who is not freed from his lower self

ومن أول الطریقة تبتدئ المكاشفات ( والمشاهدات ) ، حتى أنهم في یقظتهم یشاهدون الملائكة ، وأرواح الأنبیاء ویسمعون منهم أصواتاً ویقتبسون منهم فوائد. ثم یترقى الحال من مشاهدة الصور والأمثال ، إلى درجات یضیق عنها نطاق النطق ، فلا یحاول معبرأن یعبر عنها إلا اشتمل لفظه على خطأ صریح لا یمكنه الاحتراز عنه.
وعلى الجملة. ینتهي الأمر إلى قرب یكاد یتخیل منه طائفة الحلول ، وطائفة الاتحاد ،
وطائفة الوصول ، وكل ذلك خطأ. وقد بینا وجه الخطأ فیه في كتاب (( المقصد الأسنى
)) ؛ بل الذي لابسته تلك الحالة لا ینبغي أن یزید على أن یقول :

وكان ما كان مما لستُ أذكره
فظنَّ خیراً ولا تسأل عن الخبرِ!

The man who makes his religion a means to the gaining of this world, will lose both worlds alike; whereas the man who gives up this world for the sake of religion, will get both worlds alike.

اعلم أن مفتاح معرفة الله تعالى هو معرفة النفس، كما قال سبحانه وتعالى: (سَنُريهِم آياتِنا في الآفاقِ وَفي أَنفُسِهِم حَتّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُم أَنَّهُ الحَقُّ). وقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: (من عرف نفسه فقد عرف ربه). وليس شيء أقرب إليك من نفسك، فإذا لم تعرف نفسك، فكيف تعرف ربك؟ فإن قلت: إني أعرف نفسي! فإنما تعرف الجسم الظاهر، الذي هو اليد والرجل والرأس والجثة، ولا تعرف ما في باطنك من الأمر الذي به إذا غضبت طلبت الخصومة، وإذا اشتهيت طلبت النكاح، وإذا جعت طلبت الأكل، وإذا عطشت طلبت الشرب.

Aku telah menerobos setiap celah yang gelap, aku telah menyerang setiap persoalan, aku telah menyelam ke dalam setiap lautan, aku telah meneliti akidah semua sekte, aku telah menelanjangi semua doktrin rahasia setiap komunitas. Semua ini kulakukan agar aku dapat membedakan antara kebenaran dan kesesatan, antara tradisi yang sahih dan pembaruan yang bid'ah

وأما المعارف: فاحذر منهم، فإنك لا ترى الشر إلا ممن تعرفه! وأما المجهول فلا يتعرض لك، وإنما الشر كله من المعارف الذين يظهرون من لك الصداقة بألسنتهم، فأقلل من المعارف ما قدرت. ـ

Therefore if a man has in his heart that love to God which the Law enjoins, it is perfectly lawful, nay, laudable in him to take part in exercises which promote it.

A rational foe is better than an ignorant friend.
