Yet there's something ominous about turning sixty-five. Suddenly old age is not a phenomenon which will occur; it has occurred.

When I turn thirty, in thirty days or so, I might be feeling old, so I’ll probably call my grandma up, because as old as I’ll feel, she’ll be feeling older. Twelve years older.

Recently, I turned 60... and even more recently, I turned 62. That was a bastard, I don't even remember the 61.

And in truth, of course, I'm not just 60 - I'm twelve, I'm 23, I'm 37, I'm 42, I'm 18. I'm every age I've ever been. Depending on what day of the week it is and what the situation calls for at the moment.

I am beginning to reach the age when I say hello to the old women I meet in my neighborhood, anticipating the moment in life when I shall be one of them. When I was twenty I didn't notice them; they would be dead before my face had wrinkles.

I soften when she sees my three grandchildren. I consider them my retirement gratuity; they are the true source of happiness in my life.

No, but you see what I mean: you should be able to renew your youth in the generation that follows yours. In your thirties, your sons keep you nimble and laughing. In your forties, they keep you worried and attached to the world. In your fifties, you may have grandchildren to play with. You can live till your grandchildren come along to see your creaking smiles and your card tricks… They replenish you. If everyone's cut off from all that — who's to wonder if time goes wrong, or if poor old Charley gets some crazy idea about seeing gnomes?

I do know that when I am 60, I should be attempting to achieve different personal goals than those which had priority at age 20.

I am beginning to feel that I am growing old; soon, I shall have to eat mush like children. I'm growing wise; I'm growing — yes, — I'm growing old!

With sixty staring me in the face, I have developed inflammation of the sentence structure and definite hardening of the paragraphs.
