As long as, every night, a black child does less homework than a white child, and substantially less homework than an Asian-American child, we're always going to have this problem. Which means it comes back to the home.

Kids didn't have huge backpacks when I was their age. We didn't have backpacks at all. Now it seemed all the kids had them. You saw little second-graders bent over like sherpas, dragging themselves through the school doors under the weight of their packs. Some of the kids had their packs on rollers, hauling them like luggage at the airport. I didn't understand any of this. The world was becoming digital; everything was smaller and lighter. But kids at school lugged more weight than ever.

School days, I believe, are the unhappiest in the whole span of human existence. They are full of dull, unintelligible tasks, new and unpleasant ordinances, brutal violations of common sense and common decency. It doesn't take a reasonably bright boy long to discover that most of what is rammed into him is nonsense, and that no one really cares very much whether he learns it or not.

Can we continue to ask our children to put their studies behind and homework aside in order to fulfill traditional obligations, yet blame other races and the circumstances in which we live, when we fall behind in education, professional education, trade and other fields of personal endeavour," she asked.

I suppose it is because nearly all children go to school nowadays and have things arranged for them that they seem so forlornly unable to produce their own ideas.

Something about too many people packed together and nothing to guide them makes the children worse than they used to be, to her mind.

The sorts of kids who write songs or poetry or paint pictures are the sorts of kids who feel too much at times. The sorts of kids whose feelings can overpower them.

Then if children make so much trouble, why do people have 'em?

Who can you blame, parents or their friends or the children? In India every parent wants their child to earn more money and fame than any of their peers, no one wants their child to be set on a cultural journey and do tremendous things like other artists or musicians or sportsman have done. They think the entertainment sector won’t earn them any job or money. I blame the parents. They should inspire their children to pursue their interest along with the regular studies. I feel really sorry about this.

It annoys me when teachers require kids to use laborious, prescribed methods to calculate things (and to "show their work" to prove they did) because it teaches kids not to see the patterns that exist in the numbers.

Too many parents make life hard for their children by trying, too zealously, to make it easy for them.

My teacher's like, "Mr. Jaco?" </br> "Yes?" </br> "With all that knowledge, You aint trying to go to college? </br> Be a lawyer or a doctor, Get a whole lotta dollars? </br> Rather degrade women and glorify violence?" </br> "Well the work that works for me might not work for you </br> No homework, I got work to do."

If pupils suffer from attention disorders, stress and low grades, perhaps we ought to blame outdated teaching methods, overcrowded classrooms and an unnaturally fast tempo of life.
