Why do we cling to money and possessions, and disperse our intellect among a host of useless cares? Our preoccupation with such things diverts us from what is more important and makes us neglect the well-being of the soul, leading us to perdition.

Nothing will divert me from my purpose.

It is the preoccupation with possessions, more than anything else, that prevents us from living freely and nobly.

We should not allow unhealthy ego, pride or greed to overrule our good intention.

If our condition were truly happy, we would not seek diversion from it in order to make ourselves happy.

If our condition were truly happy we should not need to divert ourselves from thinking about it.

Our primary concern is not to be style icons ourselves.

We must transcend the illusion that money or power has any bearing on our worthiness as children of God.

Money is not our concern. Our concern is the sea. The sea is not persuaded by bankers’ drafts and stocks of bullion; the sea respects nothing but the grit and willpower of dedicated seamen.

Let not what thou canst not prevent, though it be the ruin of thy home or country, draw thee from thy proper work.

Let us endeavor to commence every enterprise with a pure view to the glory of God, continue it without distraction, and finish it without impatience.

Do not pursue money. He who pursues money will never achieve it. Serve! If you serve as best as you can, you will not be able to escape money.

If our condition were truly happy we should not need to divert ourselves from thinking about it. (12)

The Dervish should devote himself to the rememberane of Allah, rather than hanker after money or rather worldly gain.
