If you truly understand it, you can explain it simply to others. In a world of widespread, highly capable AI, it’s imperative to find the opportunity to pressure test your understanding of the world.

Why should things be easy to understand?

I think I’m able to explain things because understanding wasn't entirely easy for me. Some things that the most brilliant students were able to see instantly I had to work to understand. I can remember what I had to do to figure it out. The very brilliant ones figure it out so fast they never see the mechanics of understanding.

So the idea of being able to explain something in a succinct form is such a cool thing, and it requires you to know a field so well.

The best teacher is not the one who knows most but the one who is most capable of reducing knowledge to that simple compound of the obvious and wonderful.
