If I had a desire, it would be to be free from desire.

Don’t you want to be free of all that? [33] ‘But how can I do it?’ You’ve often heard how – you need to suspend desire completely, and train aversion only on things within your power. You should dissociate yourself from everything outside yourself – the body, possessions, reputation, books, applause, as well as office or lack of office. Because a preference for any of them immediately makes you a slave, a subordinate, and prone to disappointment.

I am not interested in power for power's sake. Only interested in power that will allow people to liberate themselves from Big Brother.

I ask one thing only: I ask for the right to hope, to suffer as I do. But if even that cannot be, command me to disappear, and I disappear. You shall not see me if my presence is distasteful to you.

Unwinding a habit that you have allowed to entangle you can be difficult. But the power is in you. Do not despair.

Have you ever wanted to disappear?

The pain is no longer problematic. I feel it, but there is no urge to get rid of it, for I have discovered that pain and the effort to be separate from it are the same thing.

I walk away from him. It's enormously pleasing to me, this walking away. It's like being able to make people appear and vanish, at will.

I wish sometimes that I just didn't have to think about any of this, and could drone away my life. It would be easier.

If you can break the link between feeling tones and craving — if you can be with the pleasant without chasing after it, with the unpleasant without resisting it, and with the neutral without ignoring it — then you have cut the chain of suffering, at least for a time.

Freedom from exploitation is perhaps the easiest freedom to get. All you have to do is to stop participating in any relationship — of any kind — that doesn't suit you.

When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.

End the habit of despising things that are not within your power, and apply your aversion to things that are within your power.
