I am very happy, because I was able to represent all the girls, Pamela and Leticia, who did not qualify, all the girls from skateboarding and from Brazil. To be able to realize my dream of being here and winning a medal is very gratifying. My dream and my parents' dream.

I really love the medals but what I’m proud of most, absolutely most, is that now young girls have perspective, young girls can play football and young girls can wear shirts [with players’ names on]

To be able to come out of that mess as I did is special. To be able to improve my relations with my dad is special. I'm happy with the way my life's going, the way I'm growing up as a person. Skating has changed me. I've had a lot of chances, and this is my time to shine.

Initially I didn't believe it when I heard the good news. It's truly a dream of every athlete to win a medal in the Olympics and I'm honoured to have my parents accompany me and share this joy.

Translation: A lot of people said to me that they were able to feel courage or happiness, for instance, when they see my performance. So, I believe that this is my motivation for skating, and that this gives me the reason to go on until the end.

Translation: For the first time after the great earthquake, I went to the area affected by the tsunami and visited a junior high school in Ishinomaki. I talked about figure skating in front of the students, but they got so excited to know that I was bringing the gold medal in the first place, and they got big smiles on their faces when they saw me. That made me so happy, because their smile made me learn... or realize for the first time that I could cheer up someone who had been going through a tough time because of the disaster. I think I was the most touched and cheered up there.

I had my dream Olympic skate [in the team event] and to me, I’ve been dreaming of that moment for such a long time, it made me feel like a superhero and superheroes save the day. And I wish I had said that we were all superheroes during the team event.

I want people to be taken away to another planet when they watch me skate. I want them to be transported into a dream world.

I bet my life to skate, everytime. I think, that's the mission of my life. That's why I was born here. [...] I was born for my skate.

So for me, just to be a female and represent my country, it’s a big day for me, because I am able to show other females that they can do it too.

I started at the age of 12, but my family were strongly against me doing the sport at first. They kept me telling to stop doing it, but I persuaded them by getting a female coach. From then on, it was hard work, training, a lot of pain and dedication that got me here today. And now my family were in the audience and they are so excited and so proud.

Interpreter: Now, the difference between gender: Of course I'm sure, there is many such as delicateness as well as powerfulness and all of that. But it’s not about gender. It's more about individuality and the character each skater has and that’s what makes figure skating so interesting and attractive. So I think, if all skaters can show their own uniqueness, that's what figure skating is all about.

I wanted to give them that feeling of you are special, you are incredible, No matter what your accomplishments are, you are just as good as everybody else.
