Better yet, go out for a skip instead of a jog. Skipping is such a powerful way to change your state because it does four things: 1) It’s great exercise; 2) you’ll have less stress on your body than running; 3) you won’t be able to keep a serious look on your face; and 4) you’ll entertain everybody who’s driving by! So you’ll be changing other people’s states, too, by making them laugh.

I find it is difficult to think my way into a better mood. When I sit and stew, the problem usually grows larger in my mind.
But if I activate — even if it's unrelated to the problem at hand — my mood tends to improve. Action breaks the spell. Move your body, go outside, play an instrument, work in a different room, do something.
Movement changes your state. And when your state changes, your perspective changes. New solutions appear. You notice options that were invisible when your mind was stuck running the same loop.
I have a thing I do when I’m running and want to quit. When I want to stop or feel fatigued, I repeat a mantra to myself. I’m fast. I’m healthy. I’m free. With each running step, I’m fast. I’m healthy. I’m free. And as I run, my fatigue seems to disappear, my pain diminishes, and I start to run a little faster.
