I don't speechify. I know the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. And that's what I ask. But they get mad at the straight line. I just want to ask a tough question.

So there are two you's, the one you create by loving and the one the beloved creates by loving you. The farther those two you's are apart the more the world grinds and grudges on its axis. But if you loved and were loved perfectly then there wouldn't be any difference between the two you's or any distance between them. They would coincide perfectly, there would be perfect focus, as when a stereoscope gets the twin images on the card into perfect alignment.

The latter think the shortest distance between two points is from a blonde to a bed.

Ask yourself: Is there any way I can become even more loving than I am? Can I fill my heart with more loving kindness? Can you, despite the fact that there are less than perfect people in our world, think loving thoughts about yourself and about others? Spread that love around as far as your mind will allow!

To love purely is to consent to distance, it is to adore the distance between ourselves and that which we love.

Wherever there is distance, there is longing. Yet there is some strange wisdom in the fact of distance. It is an interesting imaginative exercise to interchange them: to consider what is near as distant and to consider the distant as intimate.

Someone once asked me if I had a favorite distance. My answer was easy: the closer the better.
