Telling a story is like reaching into a granary full of wheat and drawing out a handful. There is always more to tell than can be told.

I don’t find juggling easy. However, for the past few years, I’ve been lucky enough to attend a few writing retreats (such as Hedgebrook) and that always gives my writing a boost. Currently, I’m not teaching, which makes it easier to prioritize my writing. The way that you’ve described your struggle to maintain balance certainly resonates for me.

juggle is most definitely the right word when it comes to my life.

Storytelling is a big one, it allows you to conceive of possibilities you may not have otherwise seen as achievable.

Everybody loves a good story, but good storytelling doesn't come easy to everybody. It's a skill that takes a lifetime to master. So study the great stories and then go find some of your own. Your stories will get better the more you tell them.

We all have our individual challenges in any field, the beauty of working in the field of storytelling is you tell it the way you want to. So write the stories you want to see on screen. Support the stories you want to watch. Focus on the ways it is working and make more work. Find the doors that are open to you, and kick them open wide.

Whenever there’s a story happening, there’s more than one story happening.

To survive, you must tell stories.

I tell them that a simple story is the best story, and that time and place is really crucial to good storytelling. Establish your stories in a specific time and place and get your characters set solidly within that framework before you let them start moving from one room to the next...

I am a storyteller. Whether I am reporting breaking news, producing a TV special, narrating an audio book or writing a work of fiction—it is all storytelling.

I pride myself on being a person who is able to juggle several balls in the air at the same time. It takes a lot of hard work, a lot of diligence.

In some of the earlier work, I liked to keep readers guessing: one story asked a question, and another resolved it. For the stories I’m working on now—both the new ones and the older ones I’m revisiting—I want to wring everything out. That way, I don’t have to write separate stories for every character who surprises me.

Playing with words, making up new ones, gifting your audience with a well written story is nothing short of magic.

There is a similarity between juggling and composing on the typewriter. The trick is, when you spill something, make it look like a part of the act.
