Every new set of discoveries raises a host of questions which we were never before wise enough even to ask.

Knowledge brings more questions than answers.

A child's world spreads only a little beyond his understanding while that of a great scientist thrusts outward immeasurably. An answer is invariably the parent of a great family of new questions. So we draw worlds and fit them like tracings against the world about us, and crumple them when they do not fit and draw new ones.

For almost everything in our world is new, startlingly new. None of us can afford to stop learning or to check our curiosity about new things, or to lose our humility in the face of new situations.

The actual state of our knowledge is always provisional and … there must be, beyond what is actually known, immense new regions to discover.

Whenever we proceed from the known into the unknown we may hope to understand, but we may have to learn at the same time a new meaning of the word 'understanding.

We are gaining the knowledge; science is giving us that. Now we need wisdom as well.

The more we learn about the world, and the deeper our learning, the more conscious, specific, and articulate will be our knowledge of what we do not know, our knowledge of our ignorance.
