Instead of asking "what do I want from life?", a more powerful question is, "what does life want from me?"

What does life want from me? What are my circumstances calling me to do?

We do not ask life what the meaning of life is. Life asks us, what is the meaning of your life. And life demands our answer.

What do I want from this life? What makes you happy is not enough. All the things that satisfy our instincts only satisfy the animal in us. I want to be proud of myself. I want more. I want to look up to myself and when I die, I want to smile because of the things I have done, not cry for the things I haven't done.

I don’t know what I want. Nobody knows — or if they do, they don’t know for long. I mean, you don’t want the same thing long enough for it to be What You Want From Life in capital letters. Well, maybe some people do. Maybe there's a few simple folks — or maybe a few million, I don't know — who fix their hearts, and their minds, and their everlasting souls on a thing, and keep on all their lives hoping for it. Living for it. Wanting It From Life. But these are the people who never get it.

The message of the summoned life is that you don’t need to panic if you don’t yet know what you want to do with your life. But you probably want to throw yourselves into circumstances where the summons will come.

You should ask certain questions: What is the purpose of my life? What do I want from life? What are the things that I truly value, that are not done just to please or impress the people around me?

You can take what life gives you or you can take what you want from life. Your choice.

these questions: What do I value most? What kind of life do I want? What do I want my life to look like, to feel like? Who do I wish to be?

It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life — daily and hourly. Our answer must consist, not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual.

It’s not ‘What do I want to do?’, it’s ‘What kind of life do I want to have?’

Life does not ask what we want. It presents us with options

Ultimately, man should not ask what the meaning of his life is, but rather must recognize that it is he who is asked. In a word, each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life; to life he can only respond by being responsible.

The most important question you need to answer is What do you want for your life? Bear in mind that what you want might not currently exist in your family.
