Thanks to constant feedback and an unforgiving weed-out process, those who try will learn quickly if they might be a match, at least compared to jobs with less constant feedback. If they aren’t, they go test something else, and continue to gain information about their options and themselves.

You have no security unless you can live bravely, excitingly, imaginatively; unless you can choose a challenge instead of a competence.

Millennials, by contrast, have internalized the need to find employment that reflects well on their parents (steady, decently paying, recognizable as a “good job”) that’s also impressive to their peers (at a “cool” company) and fulfills what they’ve been told has been the end goal of all that childhood optimization: doing work you’re passionate about, which will naturally lead to other “better life outcomes.

A job...is a way to pay the bills, a career is a path towards increasingly better work, and a calling is work that's an important part of your life and a vital part of your identity.

The way that people work has changed; it’s no longer a job for life. You’re probably going to do a couple of different things in different places. Sometimes it’s not what you do particularly well it’s what you aren’t able to provide, when an employer is looking at so many graduates, they’re looking to disqualify you more than they’re looking to qualify you. Small things, the growth of social media means everyone is on Facebook, some people put their whole lives on display.

I recommend to young people to seek work for what they will learn, more than what they will earn. Look down the road at what skills they want to acquire before choosing a specific profession and before getting trapped in the Rat Race.

Always remember, job is a wrong idea. Don't ever look for a job, always tell yourself that I'm a job creator. I'm not a job seeker, I'm a job creator. So be a job creator.

People who are insecure about their lives run after money. If you are interested and passionate about your job, money will follow.

Mr. Franz, I think careers are a 20th Century invention and I don't want one. You don’t need to worry about me; I have a college education. I’m not destitute. I'm living like this by choice.

Will a job be the best solution to this fear over the long run? In my opinion, the answer is no.
