The more I am open to the realities in me and in the other person, the less do I find myself wishing to rush in to “fix things.” As I try to listen to myself and the experiencing going on in me, and the more I try to extend that same listening attitude to another person, the more respect I feel for the complex processes of life. So I become less and less inclined to hurry in to fix things, to set goals, to mold people, to manipulate and push them in the way that I would like them to go. I am much more content simply to be myself and to let another person be himself.

When I let go of trying to be everything to everyone, I had much more time, attention, love, and connection for the important people in my life.

So if we love someone, we should train in being able to listen. By listening with calm and understanding, we can ease the suffering of another person.

Discern more; do less.

The first step in learning to love others is the attempt to understand them.

I would not seek to force people to live up to my ideals but rather love them into doing the thing that is right.

Brag less, create more. Distract less, learn more. Gossip less, produce more. Take less, give more. Hate less, love more.

Be — don't try to become

The less time you fixate on everyone else, the more time you have to focus on yourself.

Don't waste your time with people who will ultimately destroy you, but concentrate instead on those who will appreciate your responsibility to them, and, likewise, feel responsible to you.

The way to change others' minds is with affection, and not anger.
