The ability to concoct plausible lies is a talent not to be underestimated.

Art must take reality by surprise. No one was lying when, in 2011, the UN demanded that the Libyan government respect the human rights of its citizens, even though the UN, Libya and human rights are all figments of our fertile imaginations.

To present a whole world that doesn’t exist and make it seem real, we have to more or less pretend we’re polymaths. That’s just the act of all good writing.

Fantasies aren't reality, I know, I know, I know. Except when they are. Except when you make them into reality.

Good fiction is made of that which is real, and reality is difficult to come by.
