Sometimes I worry we've already made our decisions and have no hope of undoing them.

The fact that you “can’t do” something can be embarrassing. But if you are “learning to do” something, that is admirable. There are only tiny baby steps between can’t and learning.

At this point, choice no longer liberates, but debilitates. It might even be said to tyrannize.

I think a lot of us share a fear that we and people we love will lose control of our own destinies at the end of life.

It does not make sense. It cannot exist. It's impossible, and if it isn't impossible, it's irrelevant, and if it isn't either of those things, it's embarrassing.

I must be permitted to say that I have been almost overwhelmed by the announcement of the sad event which has so recently occurred. I feel incompetent to perform duties so important and responsible as those which have been so unexpectedly thrown upon me.
