To know yourself is to forget yourself.

And we forget because we must

Forgetting oneself is opening oneself

One of the tragedies of our life is that we keep forgetting who we are

In looking out upon the world, we forget that the world is looking at itself.

We forget what we already have, don

Our eyes are on the past, and our imaginations fly to the future. This makes us impervious to the present moment. So we forget to be kind. We forget to say hello to a stranger or listen to a friend. We forget to be good to ourselves.

And we forget because we must and not because we will.

We forget that people can change, including our own people; including ourselves.

When I forget my sovereign, may my God forget me.

That’s what you always forget, isn’t it? I mean, you forget to pay attention to what’s happening. And that’s the same as not being here and now.
