People don't think what they feel, don't say what they think and don't do what they say.

The problem ain't what people know. It's what people know that ain't so that's the problem.

The world is filled with polite, shy, inscrutable, unintelligible, tight lipped, superficial, dishonest and also honest people who for one reason or another do not say what they think. The search for freedom of speech has barely begun. Many do not reveal their thoughts because they are not sure what they think. Many would be braver in their speech if they were more certain of a sympathetic hearing. Many, particularly in places where success depends on conformity, are schooled to be hypocrites. The hidden thoughts in other people’s heads are the great darkness that surrounds us.

More often than not, it seems that people are having thoughts, though not really thinking about what they’re thinking about — at least not in an effective way that resolves, advances, or manages the content.

People who don't think shouldn't talk.

We are sorely deficient in talking with each other and listening to each other. We lack mobility, criticism and self-criticism. We incline to doctrinism. What makes it worse is that so many people do not really want to think. They want only slogans and obedience. They ask no questions and they give no answers, except by repeating drilled-in phrases. They can only assert and obey, neither probe nor apprehend. Thus they cannot be convinced, either. How shall we talk with people who will not go where others probe and think, where men seek independence in insight and conviction?

The people. They know how to know, but not how to choose.

The trouble with most people is that they think with their hopes or fears or wishes rather than with their minds.

Most people, even in simple risky situations, don't behave the way the theory of utility would have them behave.

Most people suspend their judgment till somebody else has expressed his own and then they repeat it. Common parlance alludes to this weakness in the frequently heard phrase: PEOPLE DO NOT THINK.

We are often unable to tell people what they need to know because they want to know something else.

And yet, it's the last place on earth the average person will turn to for help. You know why? You know why people don't automatically turn their own vast mental resources on when faced with a problem? It's because they never learned how to think. Most people will go to any length to avoid thinking when they're faced with a problem. They will ask advice from the most illogical people, usually people who don't know any more than they do: next-door neighbors, members of their families, and friends stuck in the same mental traps that they are. Very few of them use the muscles of their mind to solve their problems.

Because most people are intimidated by math and can’t independently critique it, they overvalue opinions backed with math/pseudoscience.
