never feel jealous of other people’s success, and to try to see the best in people and to have empathy for whatever might be causing or fueling their worst behaviors.

They encouraged me to always look for the good in people instead of assuming the worst and trying to find fault.

Don’t treat people as bad as they are. Treat them as good as you are.

When working with people, assume good intentions.

When listening to people, interpret their words in a generous way.

You will occasionally get burned and mistreated by always assuming the best in others, but it is a far better way to live than the opposite.

Do not forget that others won’t see the problems the way you look at or vice versa.

If you want people to think well of you, do not speak well of yourself.

Don't judge a man by the tales of others.

Don't try to be better than others. Try to be better than yourself.

One must have faith in the best in men and distrust the worst. One must allow the best to be shown so that it reveals and prevails over the worst. Nations should have a pillory for whoever stirs up useless hate, and another for whoever fails to tell them the truth in time.

until you have formed the habit of looking for the good instead of the bad there is in others, you will be neither successful nor happy.

# Don't compare yourself to others

Do not think of your faults; still less of others' faults: in every person who comes near you, look for what is good and strong: honour that; rejoice in it; and, as you can, try to imitate it.

Other people's opinion of you does not have to become your reality.

So, instead of looking for hope, try this:
Don't hope.
Don't despair, either.
In fact, don't deign to believe you know anything. It's that assumption of knowing with such blind, fervent, emotional certainty that gets us into these kinds of pickles in the first place.
Don't hope for better. Just be better.
Be something better. Be more compassionate, more resilient, more humble, more disciplined. [...]
